This has been covered a lot but because it conflicts with older advice I'll add. That being said I haven't upgraded my computer since 2009. So you do not advocate the use of external drives using PTs? I thought it was the rule of thumb not to use the internal drive of the computer to record via PTs? I find it surprising that Apple will do a Fusion drive computer when it's current OSX version doesn't support it? Something to keep in mind in all this is Fusion drives are not supported in the current High Sierra OSX version and may not be in the future. Do that instead of using external audio drives. This has been covered many times before on DUC. Thanking you kindly in advance of any advice? More money or I can downgrade the computer to the mid spec one on the Apple site to help compensate for the price of the 1TB SSD?
IMAC FUSION DRIVE VS SSD 2018 MAC
So the question is would I be much better going from spending £2,249,00 on this mac with a fusion drive to one which is going to have the 1TB SSD. Apple do offer as an alternative the option of 512 SSD + £180, 1TB SSD +£540 and 2TB SSD at a whopping +£1,260.00 which is out of my price range. I do not want to suffer clicks or pops or indeed those dreaded annoying error messages stating running out of processing power or memory as per the computer I'm using at the moment (low spec). I will also be upgrading to PT 12.Īfter reading this thread it seems the fusion drive is not the best way to go especially when I will specifically be using this iMac to record with PTs. 4.2GHz Quad - Core Intel Core i7 Processor, Turbo Boost -4.5 GHz.
IMAC FUSION DRIVE VS SSD 2018 UPGRADE
Going to upgrade my iMac from a 2009 model to this spec of iMac. This may be the reason why it is no longer sold as a new product. However it was really expensive ($1299.-) and according to many reviews it got a pretty noisy fan. There was one external drive solution which were faster than all the others.

If you still have an unused slot in your Expressbox you may use it though.Īnyway this kinda solution may provide you similar disk speeds like the internal Apple Flash drives. It has got 2 Thunderbolt 2 ports which allows you to daisy This will be a quite affordable external Thunderbolt 2 chassis. So if you want it faster you may put PCie SSDs into something like your Magma ExpressBox (external Thunderbolt bay). You are right of course that even external Samsung SSDs are not as fast as those internal Flash drives.
